What Can You Build?
Here's what teams typically build on the API.
Popular Integrations
- Power BI / Tableau — Pull annotation and project data into dashboards for executive reporting
- Microsoft Teams / Slack — Poll the API on a schedule and post new or changed annotations to a channel
- Jira / Asana — Sync annotations as tasks in your existing project management tool
- Excel / Google Sheets — Export annotation data for custom analysis
Doclio doesn't have webhooks, so the API won't push events to you. Automations work by polling — a scheduled script (cron job, Power Automate flow, Zapier schedule) that calls the API at an interval, compares against the last run, and acts on what changed.
Automation Examples
- Daily digest email — Scheduled script that fetches overdue annotations each morning and sends a summary email to the project team
- Status sync — When a Jira ticket is closed, automatically update the corresponding Doclio annotation via
PATCH - Auto-assign — Poll for new annotations and assign them to team members based on the drawing discipline
- Compliance reporting — Generate weekly compliance reports from annotation data
Tip: Start simple — a read-only integration that pulls data into a dashboard is a great first step. You can add write capabilities later as you become familiar with the API.
